What it is
The tVNS system is a transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation device featuring a patented ear electrode that targets the cymba concha. It provides non-invasive neuromodulation designed for daily use. The device is portable, making it suitable for both clinical settings and supervised home use.
How it works
A clip-style electrode attaches to the outer ear at the cymba concha, a region with 100% vagal innervation. The device delivers gentle electrical pulses to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve. These signals travel to the brainstem and influence wider brain networks involved in regulation and recovery. All stimulation parameters are set by the treating clinician to ensure safe and effective delivery.
Companion app
The tVNS system includes a companion app for session tracking and data sharing. Both the patient and clinician can monitor usage and outcomes through the app. This supports treatment adherence and provides useful data for clinical review.
Specifications
The tVNS system is a Class IIa medical device under EU-MDR 2017/745 and carries a CE mark. It is currently the only non-invasive VNS device with this level of EU-MDR approval.
Approved indications include epilepsy, depression, chronic migraines, and Prader-Willi syndrome. Emerging applications under investigation include stroke rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and other neurological conditions.
